Extracting location insights from a large news database

Date: February 18, 2019
Time: 16:00 - 18:00 (Japan Time)
Venue: UTokyo, Komaba Campus, Building 2, Room 303
Language: English

In this workshop we will put to work our model to ground locations appearing on our news database. For this workshop we will improve the current location-grounding-engine, also connecting this engine to a reporting tool to start exploring insights. These insights will be two-fold, on one hand, we will inspect the results after extracting the raw information on the location within the news, on the other hand, we will compare the results when using the location information after applying the grounding process to all the locations in the news. By inspecting which countries are mentioned in the news we will be able to analyze the locations at the same level for all the news, getting a better picture about the locations occurring in the news.
